Free Nitrous Oxide Sedation in Richton MS

Millions of people across the U.S. experience some level of dental anxiety.

If you are one of them, you know how easy it is to put off necessary dental care, sometimes for years. You might even be suffering with damaged, painful, or unsightly teeth right now, but worried about scheduling an appointment.

It doesn’t have to be this way.

Nitrous oxide is a safe, effective sedation option that has been used to calm and relax fearful dental patients for more than a hundred years. It is safe enough that it can even be used on kids, and the effects leave your system almost immediately, so you can safely drive yourself home and continue on with your day after your appointment.

But most important, it can help you get the routine, preventive dental care you need to stay healthy and avoid bigger problems.

What Is Nitrous Oxide?

Nitrous oxide is a clear, odorless gas. We blend it with oxygen and administer it through a soft, comfortable nasal mask. We can adjust the blend as needed to make sure that you are getting the dose you need to stay comfortable and calm.

Nitrous oxide produces a calm, relaxed, carefree sensation, but you remain alert so you can communicate with your dentist or hygienist. Some people experience a slightly euphoric sensation, and this gives nitrous oxide its other common name: laughing gas!

When Can We Use Nitrous Oxide?

If you feel any level of anxiety when it comes to your dental care, just let us know! Some people do fine until they need a treatment like an extraction or root canal, while others feel fear just thinking about a dental cleaning. This is okay, and we will never judge you for this. Dental fears are extremely common, and they are not your fault.

Unlike many other offices out there, we don’t require an extra charge for nitrous oxide. The way we see it, one of our highest priorities is making sure that you are comfortable while you receive the care you need. If nitrous oxide helps you stay comfortable, then it’s a necessary part of your dental treatment!

How Do I Request Nitrous Oxide?

When you call to schedule your appointment, just let us know that you would like nitrous oxide during your treatment. Don’t worry; many patients choose this option so it’s business as usual for us! You are not inconveniencing us or being a nuisance in any way. This is what we are here for!

We’ll talk to you prior to your treatment and answer any questions you have about your care or about sedation with nitrous oxide. After your treatment is complete, we’ll remove the mask. After you take a few deep breaths of regular air, the sedation will leave your system and you’ll be free to carry on with the rest of your day!

If you’ve been putting off dental care, we want to help. Call our Richton dental office today and ask about nitrous oxide sedation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nitrous oxide gas, also called laughing gas, is a very mild sedative gas that acts within minutes.  The gas does not put the patient to sleep, it simply relaxes the patient and makes them happier.  Patients often confuse nitrous oxide gas sedation with IV sedation, these are not the same.  Nitrous oxide gas sedation is best used on anxious patients that are concerned about the local anesthetic injections, concerned about the loud sounds of dental procedures, or for pediatric patients.  If patients require further sedation we will refer them to the right specialists for IV sedation.

While you are under the effect of nitrous oxide gas, you will feel less anxious, happier, and you may laugh at silly things.  You may feel some tingling in the fingers and toes, sleepiness, and "funny", these are all normal responses.  If you feel light-headed or nauseated, we will turn the gas down to ensure your comfort.  After the procedure is completed, the gas will take a few minutes to leave the body and you will feel normal again.  Using the gas does not hinder you from driving or perform normal daily activities.
